A Toroon is a handmade Italian nougat wafer: chewy chocolate nougat packed with whole roasted nuts, pressed between two crisp wafers and cut into small pieces.
It's the treat Nonna Maria made for every wedding, party and family visit. Today we make them the same way she did, by hand and in small batches in Toronto.
Inspired by Italian torrone
In Italy, torrone is a beloved nougat full of nuts, especially at Christmas and at weddings, and it's often set between thin sheets of wafer. Small pieces are known as torroncini.
Traditional torrone is made by slowly cooking honey, sugar and egg whites. Our family recipe does it differently, making the nougat with marshmallows and real chocolate and packing it with whole roasted nuts. Toroons are our family's torroncini. They're a little rustic, a little indulgent, and very hard to stop eating.
What's inside
We make two flavours, and every bag holds 18 pieces.
What do they taste like?
Picture the crunch of a fresh wafer, then rich, chewy chocolate nougat and a mouthful of warm, toasty nuts. The dark chocolate and hazelnut Toroon is deep and rich. The white chocolate and almond Toroon is sweet and creamy.
How to enjoy them
- With espresso. The classic way, after Sunday lunch.
- On the dessert table. Weddings, showers, holidays and birthdays. See our event platters.
- As a gift. Our gift baskets pair Toroons with premium Italian espresso.
How long do Toroons stay fresh?
Every bag is sealed with silica gel packs to keep Toroons fresh for at least a month, though they taste best when enjoyed soon. For longer storage, pop them in the freezer.
Allergens
All Toroons contain wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, soy and dairy, and are made in a facility that processes other tree nuts.
Taste the tradition
Handmade in Toronto, delivered across Toronto and the GTA, and shipped anywhere in Ontario.
